MRT TRAIN SERVICE DISRUPTION
1. On 21 January 2008, there were no westbound and eastbound train services
between Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah MRT stations from the start of train service
at 5.28am till 12.45pm. The disruption was caused by the breakdown of a
maintenance works train which was carrying out works between Tampines and
Simei (westbound) MRT stations. There were some damages to the maintenance
works train and we are investigating the cause.
2. During the delay period, eastbound trains were turned around at Tanah Merah
MRT Station. Bus bridging services were activated to ferry passengers between
Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah MRT stations. The first bus arrived at Pasir Ris MRT
Station at 5.38am, and the first bus arrived at Tanah Merah MRT Station at
5.48am. In total, 40 SMRT buses and 30 SBST buses were deployed during the
disruption to ferry passengers between Pasir Ris, Tampines, Simei and Tanah
Merah MRT stations.
3. In addition, from 8.28am, westbound shuttle trains serving Tampines, Simei and
Tanah Merah MRT stations were operated at a 28-minute interval to ease
passenger flow at Tampines and Simei MRT stations.
4. Passengers were informed of the service disruption and the free bus bridging
services through train and station announcements, notices and rail travel
information system in the stations as well as broadcast channels.
5. Both westbound and eastbound train services between Pasir Ris and Tanah
Merah MRT stations resumed at 12.45pm. About 57,000 passengers traveling
between Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah MRT stations were affected.
6. Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can
claim a full fare refund from the Passenger Service Centre in any of the 51 SMRT
stations, within the next three working days (from today till 24 January 2008).
7. SMRT apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Personal Responce of ZYX
heres a summary of incidents on jan 21 In my opinion and really in my opinion and boy am i not happy opinions
OWN OPINIONS
once upon a night, when smrt are running maintenace trains on their MRT line fixing crooked rails and welding them straight, tightening loose rivets and welding tracks thhat have a huge gap after the days xpansion and retraction, a signalling fault occurs.
Then a bed pan train used to take up replaced track material rolls into the path of the mainenace train. maintenace trains rolls on then...at 340am BANG. the collisions between he two maintenace locommotives woke residents up in Simei. (news)
at 538am SMRT finds that it cannot run train service between Tanah merah and Pasir ris stations due to the two broken things left on track. o it calls up 40 of its spare fleet and rings up SBS to ask for help.
END OF OPINIONS and ASUMPTIONS
by then the press had gotten news of the incident and they sent a staement out saying that it is some mechanical ault n we are investigating.
by 7am crowds throng the stations in the east like the scenes of the Paris train strikes - where they stopped train services whilst on strike. SMRT offered no help in chiense language. many were left wondering what happened. the buses sent were not enough to meet crowd demands
after this incident i have formed the opinion that smrt are covering their ***ses and not owning up to a seriuos industrail type incident and are trying to avoid the maximum 1 million fine to be impsoed. i am indeed in poor opinion of SMRT now. Also on the other hand the media could be at fault for repoting that the incident was a mechanical fault and not a clear industrial accident. and in the way they saboh SMRT. both english n chiense dailies reported unknown causes.
For now i guess we could either beleive the media or stete the opinion that its an accident like i did

Misc. Comments
Westbound shuttle trains were also put into place at a 28—minute interval to ease passenger flow at Tampines and Simei MRT stations.
The trains changed platform that morning (Westbound train changing into the middle and/or Eastbound platforms momentarily)
It thinks it's quite dumb la. Suicide cases end much faster. And the only reason why it took 6 to 7 hours is that the train keeps on getting stuck here and there at Tampines area. They could have towed from the front, but the front part is dangling loose.
According to CNA, "Residents living next to the MRT tracks where the disruption occurred (Simei residents), told Channel NewsAsia that they heard a loud sound on the tracks before dawn. SMRT said there were some damages to the maintenance works train."
And this is a rare, once in a blue moon occasion when SBST helps out SMRT in a troublesome situation. =/
Lol. Maintanence train now needs maintanence. And don't the train looks as if Superman triedto stop it on its tracks? xD
